After Twitter put a ‘state-affiliated’ label on Chinese media, their tweets saw a big drop in likes and retweets. @CGTNOfficial, @XHNews, and @PDChina, the three accounts with the most followers, are all down more than 20%. Fascinating analysis on the effect Twitter’s labeling of “China state-affiliated media” has had on user engagement.

Did any such accounts actually perform better afterward? Yes, it turns out — but it helped if their content was exclusively panda-related. https://chinamediaproject.org/2021/01/18/chinas-telling-twitter-story/
