Wen Jiabao has been censored several times in State media, notably a 2010 interview with Fareed Zakaria in which he called for greater press freedom.

Elliott Zaagman: Even Wen Jiabao is getting censored. Wow.

Literally stamping his name over … everything.

Xi Jinping’s name prominently featured in headlines of all six of the front page stories on @PDChina today. http://paper.people.com.cn/rmrb/html/2021-04/21/nw.D110000renmrb_20210421_2-01.htm

These page 9 pieces in the @PDChina by various deputy directors that obsequiously use Xi Jinping’s name (31 times in a half page today) are really interesting.

Has to be similar to stuff the MyPillow guy was doing with Trump - same dynamic.

The underlying data is, I suspect, a little dated, but it’s good to see this on WeChat: a post drawing on the GDELT project to show that Western media are often more critical of their own countries than they are of China. https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/FFnxK7LboyuncRRXMugMYA

This is why those “RIP Hong Kong” headlines annoy me.
It’s because folks like @HongKongCTU’s Mung Siu Tat are very much alive: “the best way to protect our rights is to exercise them as far as we can. The focus of ‘save one breath; light one lamp’ is to light the lamp”
