The fact that People’s Daily condemned Pelosi’s Taiwan trip was unsurprising, yet how they did it was interesting. @cnmediaproject analyzes an article titled “International Society Fiercely Condemns Pelosi for Hurried Visit to China’s Taiwan Region.” https://chinamediaproject.org/2022/08/04/chinas-global-soundbite-factory/

Hot Words Heat Up for Xi: One of the key Xi Jinping power phrases to watch in the weeks ahead of the CCP’s 20th National Congress is the “Two Establishes.” The term is trending red hot right now in the People’s Daily. https://chinamediaproject.org/2022/08/10/hot-words-heat-up-for-the-ccp-congress/

Prelim thoughts: China’s new Taiwan White Paper

While basic principles to CH’s approach on TW are same, details suggest CH’s “One Country Two Systems” may involve less political autonomy for TW than before, making an untenable political proposition even more untenable for TW 1/

I understand why @nytopinion publishes Wang’s piece: to show diversity of opinion, to criticize US policies. But I am so sick of hearing Wang Wen speaking on behalf of “China’s people”. No, he cannot represent us. And I’m disappointed that NYT let him speak on behalf of us.

Jeryl Bier: On Tuesday, the New York Times published an essay by Wang Wen: Why China’s People No Longer Look Up to America.

In Oct 2021, the @NYTimes reported that Wen Wang was one of the authors of a Chinese report that suggested COVID started in the United States.

Oh man, what a ridiculous finding…working for state-owned companies doesn’t define a person, a ccp member doesn’t have to be a marxist from heart, everybody worked for the state decades ago.

Forbes: LinkedIn profiles indicate that hundreds of ByteDance and TikTok employees used to work for Chinese state media publications, raising concerns that China could use TikTok’s broad cultural influence in the US for its own ends.
